Backup cameras exist to show what the mirrors miss when you reverse. Aftermarket kits split into two jobs that search engines mash together.
Job A — reverse only. A rear camera feeds a small dash or windshield monitor when you need it. LeeKooLuu LK3 is that class: wired HD camera, small LCD, 12V power, parking lines you can move or turn off. Car and Driver liked the install more than the picture. For a work truck that only needs “don’t hit the bollard,” that is enough.
Job B — mirror dash + reverse assist. A full-width mirror screen shows the rear feed while you drive and can flip into reverse assist when the rear cam is triggered. WOLFBOX G840S is that class: 12-inch IPS touchscreen strapped over the stock mirror, 4K front dash cam, 1080P rear camera, dual recording, guide lines you can swipe on the reverse view. Car and Driver called it Best Overall in their 2026 test. You buy more screen and more recording. You also buy a mirror cover and a longer install.
Mixing those jobs is how people buy the wrong box. If you only reverse into a shop bay twice a day, LK3 is the simpler wire. If you want a live rear feed and front evidence on every commute, G840S is the bigger unit.
Wired vs wireless (and why wireless is not the pick)
Wired means the video path is a cable. Lag is low. Interference from shop radios and trailers is less of a fight. The cost is routing that cable from the license-plate area or tailgate up to the cab.
Wireless means the camera still needs power (often reverse-light hardwire), but the video hops over RF or Wi-Fi. Marketing calls that “no wires.” Reality still has a power wire at the rear. Car and Driver’s CS-2 test is the skip case on this page: unreliable wireless transmission, lag, and the weakest day and night image in their group. Do not pick CS-2 because it ranks high in Amazon search. Prefer the wired LK3 axis when you want zero lag and a simple reverse kit.
G840S is not a wireless rear camera — the rear image rides a cable. Maker FAQ: Wi-Fi (when present) is for phone transfer, not the rear video path.
Power: 12V cigarette, reverse light, fuse, hardwire
LK3. Listing language: plug-and-play via a 4-pin cable. Power from the reverse light so the system wakes in reverse, or from a 12V fuse box / cigarette lighter / ignition for continuous view. Car and Driver ran the display on a 12-volt cigarette-lighter plug and powered the whole system that way. Use a clean 12V source. Neither pick is framed as a 24V commercial kit on this page.
G840S. Out of the box, the mirror runs from the cigarette lighter (Type-C car charger path in WOLFBOX manuals). When the lighter is ACC-switched, the unit comes on with the truck. If your lighter stays hot with the key off (some Fords and others), unplug the charger when parked or move to a hardwire kit so you do not drain the battery. Parking monitoring on G840S requires WOLFBOX’s hardwire kit (maker FAQ: constant B+, ACC, ground). Without it, parking mode is not enabled. Dual-battery pickups are still 12V parallel — confirm fuse and ground before you tap.
Cable length (only what maker / listing states)
G840S. WOLFBOX’s G840S user manual states the included rear camera cable is 20 feet, suitable for most cars, and warns not to splice the rear cable for length or you may lose the rear image. Official extensions are sold separately. Crew-cab long beds often need that path — buy a matching extension rather than splicing.
LK3. LeeKooLuu’s wired product page does not print an in-box cable length. LeeKooLuu does list separate 33 ft and 50 ft video cables for the LK3 system on Amazon accessory listings. If your Super Duty or long-bed run needs more length than the kit cable in your box, use the brand’s LK3-system cable and confirm what is in your package when it arrives.
Route cables along door sills and under weatherstrip. Leave slack at the tailgate and at the hinge so the first slam does not yank the connector. License-plate or above-plate mounts are the usual rear camera spot for both kits (WOLFBOX FAQ recommends above the plate; inside rear glass is an option on G840S when you flip the image).
