Buying guide
For you if: you drive a 2021–2026 F-150 and you want a tonneau for a 5’7″ bed. Groceries, a weekend load, tools you do not want wet. You will confirm bed length and the vehicle chart before you click. You want one of three jobs: hard fold you can walk on, retractable that clears the walls, or a soft cover you can yank off.
Skip this page if: the bed is not 5’7″ — a different bed length is a different cover listing. Skip if the truck is 2015–2020 F-150 (different generation). Skip if you want a rack that replaces the cover, a cap / camper shell, or a cheap no-name Amazon trifold “for now.” Skip if you actually want a soft or hard roll-up — that is the roll-up guide, not BAKFlip / Retrax / Trifecta. Comparing covers across trucks → best tonneau covers.

Retractable aluminum slats. Canister at the bulkhead. T-slot rails. Limited lifetime. Fits 2021–2026 F-150 5’7″ (67.1″) bed (including Raptor and Lightning on that listing). MPN T-80378.

03 · Budget, off in seconds · same F-150 5’7″
Soft trifold vinyl. Weather, not security. Tool-free removal. Fits 2021–2026 F-150 5’7″ (67.1″) bed (including Raptor and Lightning on that listing). MPN 92702. Not Signature 2.0.
Same F-150 bed. Three mechanisms.
BAKFlip MX4 is aluminum panels on rails. Drop the tailgate, release the rear latch, fold toward the cab. Stack it upright and you have the whole bed. Auto-latch closes it. BAK rates 400 lb evenly distributed. Snow and ice come off before you fold it or you can crease a panel.
RetraxPRO XR is a rolling cover. Slats feed into a canister at the bulkhead. Bed walls stay usable. No panel stack in the rear window. T-slot rails take racks, tents, crossbars. TraxLatch holds any open position and key-locks. Retrax rates 500 lb evenly distributed. You can open it with the tailgate up or down. The canister steals a few inches of bed at the front.
Extang Trifecta 2.0 is a vinyl tarp on an aluminum frame. Fold it for 2/3 bed. Unclamp the Jaw-Grip fronts and it is off. Triple-fin snap-on seals, corner-tuck tarp. It will not walk-on. It will not stop a determined thief. It will keep rain and dust off groceries.
Do not mix the siblings. BAKFlip G2 / FiberMax is not MX4. RetraxONE is a 1-year cover, not PRO XR. Trifecta Signature 2.0 is canvas, not this vinyl 2.0.
The Shop buttons on this page are for the 5’7″ (67.1″) bed only. A longer or shorter F-150 bed needs a different listing for the same brand and model. Confirm the vehicle chart before you buy.
| F-150 bed | These Shop buttons | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 5’7″ (67.1″) | Yes — BAKFlip MX4, RetraxPRO XR, Extang Trifecta 2.0 on this page | Confirm year and bed on the Amazon vehicle chart, then Shop |
| 5.5 ft | No — different listing | Match a 5.5-foot F-150 chart on Amazon; do not buy these listings for that bed |
| 6.5 ft | No — different listing | Match a 6.5-foot F-150 chart; same brand family, different cut |
| 8 ft | No — different listing | Match an 8-foot F-150 chart; never force a 5’7″ cover |
Tonneaus are weather-resistant. Drain tubes (MX4 and Retrax) dump rail water at the bulkhead. A hard fold still sheds at the hinges if you park it nose-down in a car wash. A vinyl trifold ponds if the tarp is slack. None of these is a sealed camper. If the load cannot get wet, put it in a box.
A cover can cut drag. This page does not invent a miles-per-gallon number for MX4, RetraxPRO XR, or Trifecta 2.0 on an F-150. Buy for weather, theft resistance, and bed access.
1. Hard fold (MX4): walk-on, auto-latch, full bed when stacked, panels in the rear window when open, cab clearance matters.
2. Retractable (RetraxPRO XR): walls stay usable, no stack, T-slots, canister steals bulkhead length, premium money.
3. Soft trifold (Trifecta 2.0): cheapest weather, off in seconds, not walk-on, not a lockbox.
If your weekend is “cover on Monday through Friday, whole bed Saturday,” Trifecta’s tool-free pull-off is the live-with. If the cover never comes off and you still haul, MX4. If you mount a rack on the cover rails, RetraxPRO XR.

Pick: daily bed use
For the 2021–2026 F-150 cover you leave on.
Drawback: folded panels sit against the cab. If you live with a headache rack or a high toolbox, that stack is the fight. Retractable exists for that. Wrong bed length = wrong listing.

Pick: clear bed, no stack
For the F-150 cover that gets out of the way.
Drawback: the canister eats bulkhead length. It costs more than MX4. If you never need the walls, you bought the expensive way to roll a cover.
Credit: Extang / RealTruck
Pick: budget, off in seconds
For weather on an F-150, not a lockbox.
Drawback: not walk-on. Not a lockbox. A slack tarp ponds. Do not order Trifecta Signature 2.0 as this pick.
2021–2026 F-150 5’7″ bed compare. No prices. Confirm year and bed length on the listing before you buy.

Years: This guide covers 2021–2026 F-150 (14th gen). A 2015–2020 F-150 is a different cut — confirm that generation on Amazon before you buy.
Bed length: Shop buttons here are 5’7″ (67.1″) only. A 5.5, 6.5, or 8-foot F-150 bed needs a different listing for the same brand. Never force one listing onto every bed.
Raptor / Lightning: The three listings on this page name Raptor and Lightning on the 5’7″ bed. Still read the vehicle chart. A different bed length is a different SKU.
BoxLink / liner: Ford BoxLink and thick drop-in plastic liners can change clamp clearance. Spray-in is usually fine. Confirm the listing.
Cab clearance on a hard fold: BAKFlip stacked against the cab needs room behind the rear window. Toolboxes and headache racks get in the way. Look at your cab before you assume you can drive folded.
Half-ton is not HD: An F-150 cover is not an F-250 / F-350 cover.
Ordering a 5’7″ cover for a 6.5 or 8-foot bed. Wrong cut. Match bed length on the vehicle chart.
No-name “universal” vinyl rolls and cheap no-name plastic-clamp trifolds. They pond, they rust the rails, they leave in a parking lot.
RetraxONE as a swap for RetraxPRO XR. ONE is the 1-year Retrax. XR / PRO is the pick.
BAKFlip G2 or FiberMax as a silent MX4 swap. Different cover, different warranty.
Trifecta Signature 2.0 as this Extang pick. Canvas tarp, different listing.
Buying a soft or hard roll-up off this page. Tyger T1 / TruXedo TruXport / BAK Revolver X4s are roll-ups. Use the roll-up guide.
Absolute waterproof. Weather-resistant and drain tubes yes. Sealed camper no.
Invented MPG savings. Buy for weather and bed access — not a printed miles-per-gallon cell.
BAKFlip MX4 if you still use the bed (hard fold, walk-on, auto-latch). RetraxPRO XR if you want the cover gone without stacking panels. Extang Trifecta 2.0 if you want cheap weather and the cover off in seconds. Shop buttons on this page are for the 5’7″ (67.1″) bed.
No. The three Shop listings here are cut for a 5’7″ (67.1″) bed only. A 5.5, 6.5, or 8-foot F-150 needs a different listing for the same brand. Match bed length on the Amazon vehicle chart.
Buy MX4 when you want a walk-on hard fold you leave on and can stack against the cab. Buy RetraxPRO XR when you want clear bed walls, no panel stack, and T-slot rails — and you will pay for the canister. Soft trifold is a different job.
Not automatically on the 5’7″ bed. The three listings on this page name Raptor and Lightning on that bed length. Still read the vehicle chart. A different bed length is a different SKU.
No. It is weather-resistant vinyl — rain and dust off groceries. Clamps are not a lockbox. If the bed is a lockbox, buy hard fold or retractable. Weather is not waterproof.
Yes, if it is fully stacked and secured on BAK’s prop, and you have cab clearance behind the rear window. Do not drive with it half-folded. Third brake light stays visible on current MX4 copy. Snow and ice off first.
Soft trifold (Extang Trifecta 2.0) is this page: folds for 2/3 bed, unclamps to remove. Soft roll-up (TruXedo TruXport / Tyger T1) rolls to the cab on rails — that is the roll-up guide with BAK Revolver X4s as the hard roll-up. Do not mix the Shop buttons.
Maybe a little drag. This page does not invent an MPG number for any of the three. Buy for weather, security class, and how you use the bed.
Brand claims: BAKFlip MX4 GEN 3 click-in / no-drill, under 30 minutes, one person. RetraxPRO XR no-drill, four clamps, under 60 minutes. Extang Trifecta 2.0 tool-free clamps — fastest of the three to pull off later. Your first install is slower. Read the vehicle chart for liner and rail notes before you start.
This guide is for the 2021–2026 F-150 with a 5’7″ bed. For BAKFlip vs Retrax vs Extang across pickups, see best tonneau covers.
