Factor 55 FlatLink vs ProLink: Best Winch Shackle Mount

A winch hook swings and can snag. A shackle mount holds a shackle or soft shackle on center at the fairlead. FlatLink folds flat for approach angle and packed height. ProLink stays fixed with a thicker shackle tab.

Same max load

Both cards print 16,000 lb max load. Geometry and packed height are the real axis — not a strength contest on that cell.

Folding vs fixed

FlatLink folds to less than 1.75 in thick. Factor 55 says that gives a better approach angle than ProLink. ProLink is the original fixed mount with a 1.2 in shackle tab meant to cut shackle rattle.

Rope and fairlead

Both work with steel or synthetic rope and do not need splicing. ProLink’s page names rope up to 3/8 in and hawse or roller fairleads. Confirm your rope eye and thimble fit the pin before you toss the hook.

Side load

Keep the pull in line with the mount. Side-loading a shackle is how recovery hardware fails early. Factor 55’s common-sense line for this class: do not side-load.

Factor 55’s Closed System Winching language means closed-link hardware end to end — mount, shackle or soft shackle, strap — instead of an open hook. That is a technique claim, not a second load rating. Your weakest printed working number still rules the recovery.

Universal to the winch rope eye and fairlead class Factor 55 lists — not a truck year SKU. Confirm rope diameter, thimble, and fairlead type. Confirm the mount clears the bumper and winch plate when FlatLink is folded and when ProLink is fixed with a shackle installed.

Pull the hook. Seat the rope eye in the FlatLink or ProLink. Install the titanium pin and snap ring per Factor 55. Fit the EPDM guards so they protect the fairlead and cut rattle. Stow FlatLink folded when you want the lowest profile. Recheck the snap ring after the first pull.
