Best power running boards for trucks

For you if: the truck is a daily, kids or a work boot need a step that is there when the door opens, and you will match year, cab, and powertrain before you buy. You want one of three jobs: the AMP door-open board with a published 600 lb-per-board rating, Rough Country’s included bypass on a Crew Cab, or Westin’s two-motor Pro-e with the lower per-side rating written as 300 lb. You will read SuperCrew vs SuperCab (or Crew vs Super Cab) on the door, not the photo.

Skip this page if: you want a fixed 2-stair or a stainless tube that stays down. That is the sibling running-boards page. Also skip if you drive a SuperCab and were about to order the SuperCrew example. AMP’s 76152-01A can be trimmed and drilled for SuperCab. Rough Country and Westin use different part numbers. A power board is a motor, a trigger, and a step that has to clear the rocker when the door is shut. A fixed board is a tube you climb all day. Do not shop them as the same product.

Door open is the trigger. Key fob and an app are not published

All three manufacturer pages say the board comes out when a door opens and tucks when the doors are closed. None of these three example pages publish a key-fob deploy or a phone app. Do not buy them for that.

AMP’s delay is published two ways. The RealTruck product page says retract after a 3 second delay when the door closes. Install sheet IM76152 says the board returns after a 2-second delay. Same brand, two numbers. Read the sheet that ships with the kit you order.

Rough Country says the boards automatically extend when the door is opened. How that F-150 kit senses the door (OEM plug, OBD, or magnets) is not published on the PSR71520 page. A Chevy clip on that page is not the F-150 install.

Westin’s install sheet uses magnetic induction modules and door magnets on the strikers. Magnets have to line up or the boards will not deploy. That is not an OBD plug.

Capacity is per board or per side. Do not mix the units

AMP publishes 600 lb on each board. That is per board, not a pair total.

Rough Country publishes 660 lb weight capacity per side, and the spec field Weight Rating is 660. Some dealer pages rewrite that as 300 lb per side. Use roughcountry.com. Do not average them.

Westin publishes 600 lb weight capacity (300 lb per side) and body copy “up to 300 lb per side.” The 600 is the pair. It is not AMP’s 600 per board. Do not put those 600s in the same cell without the unit.

None of these pages say how many people that rating is. Use the pound figure the brand printed.

SuperCrew is not SuperCab. Lightning is often a different kit

AMP 76152-01A: product notes say boards need a trim on Regular Cab and SuperCab, and drilling is required on SuperCab. The install sheet cut table is SuperCab 75 in (trim 10 in) and SuperCrew 85 in (no board modification). That sheet’s cab table years are 2021–2022. The product page title is 2021–2026 F-150 and Raptor. A later dealer-hosted sheet excludes Lightning and PowerBoost. The published Lightning / PowerBoost sibling on RealTruck is 76252-01A. Do not write 76152 as a Lightning board.

Rough Country PSR71520 is the Crew Cab child. SuperCab on the same configurator is PSR71525. The fitment rows on the Crew Cab page include 2015–2026 F-150 Crew Cab, 2022–2026 Lightning Crew Cab, 2021–2026 Tremor Crew Cab, and 2017–2026 Raptor Crew Cab, plus Super Duty Crew Cab rows. Aftermarket traction bars may hit the motor arm. That note is on the manufacturer page.

Westin 29-23945 is SuperCrew. Board length 81 in. The product page lists 2015–2026 F-150 SuperCrew, 2022–2026 Lightning SuperCrew, and 2017–2026 F-250 / F-350 / F-450 Crew Cab, plus F-550 Cab & Chassis Crew Cab. SuperCab is 29-23935, board length 73 in. The SuperCrew install sheet says SuperCrew has three rocker studs and SuperCab has two. The product page fitment runs through 2026. The install sheet application line stops at 2023 on F-150 SuperCrew and 2017–2023 on F-250/350. Do not silently extend the sheet. Confirm the chart on the listing you buy.

No-drill is not the same sentence on all three

Rough Country publishes easy, no-drill installation and an estimated 3–5 hours. Wiring method is not published on that F-150 page.

Westin’s product page says fast and easy installation — no drilling required. The install sheet still has you cut or drill a 7/16–1/2 in opening in the rubber floor grommet, seal it, and run fused red and black leads to the battery. Estimated time on that sheet is 3–4 hours. That is not a no-wire install. Report both. Do not call it plug-and-done.

AMP is not no-drill. SuperCab needs a floor drill. The install sheet also marks a pinch-weld hole for the LED wire, including on the SuperCrew path where the board length needs no cut. The sheet lists 2–3 hours and skill level 4. Tools include a drill. Override switch is optional / available, not listed as in the 76152 box. A foot on the step while you close the door can leave the board down for roof access. Reset by opening and closing the door. If something is in the way, the install sheet says the board automatically stops. Reset by clearing it and cycling a door. RealTruck does not use the words “anti-pinch” on that product page. Do not import the phrase.

Westin’s install sheet includes a power board manual switch. Off retracts the boards and disables door deploy until you switch it on. The product-page bullets do not mention the switch. Source it from the 29-23945 install sheet. An obstruction stop is not published. Do not assume Westin has Rough Country’s SAFE-STOP.

Warranty is not the same paper

AMP: 5-year limited, original purchaser, not transferable, expires if the product leaves the original vehicle or the vehicle is transferred. Labor to remove and reinstall is not covered. A 60,000-mile line shows up on some dealer pages. It is not published on the RealTruck 76152 warranty block fetched for this page. Do not copy the miles.

Rough Country: limited lifetime replacement for structural and workmanship damage, in the PSR71520 product description. What that excludes for motors, finish, or labor is not published on that page. Do not import a dealer hard-parts table.

Westin’s product page prints a 5-year warranty, and a separate limited-lifetime warranty on the LED lights. It does not print motor coverage here — confirm the warranty page.

Match year, make, and cab. Then match gas vs Lightning or PowerBoost. Then open the manufacturer vehicle chart. If your truck is not named, it is the wrong kit.

Cab names. Ford SuperCrew is not SuperCab. GM Crew Cab is not Double Cab. Ram Crew is not Quad Cab. Rough Country’s word on the example is Crew Cab. Westin’s word is SuperCrew. Same job on a half-ton crew, different part numbers.

Half-ton is not HD unless the chart says so. Rough Country and Westin example pages list some Super Duty Crew Cab rows on the same family. An F-150 kit is not automatically an F-250 kit. Read the row.

Generations and years. AMP’s product page title is 2021–2026. One install sheet cab table is 2021–2022. Westin’s product page is 2015–2026 and the SuperCrew install sheet application line stops at 2023. Do not pick the longer year in your head. Confirm the chart.

Powertrain. AMP 76152-01A is not the Lightning / PowerBoost part. Rough Country’s Crew Cab page names Lightning. Westin’s SuperCrew page names Lightning. Still read the chart. A title that bundles “F-150” is not a Lightning proof.

What fights the motor. Rough Country: aftermarket traction bars may contact the motor arm. AMP: SuperCab drilling and board trim. Westin: door magnets have to align. A drop-in step that stays down is the wrong product if the rocker will not clear a stowed board. These kits tuck. Confirm ground clearance and a lifted truck on the chart if you are not stock.

Do not step on a board that is still moving. AMP’s install sheet says keep hands away while the board is in motion. If a board stops on an obstruction, clear it and cycle a door. Do not force a stowed board down by standing on it. Snow and ice on the step surface are a slip, not a capacity test. Wash grit out of the hinge. Do not pressure-wash a connector and then complain the motor quit. Recheck fasteners after the first week.
