Tow package is not a brake controller. Look at the dash, lower-right of the wheel. Squeeze levers and a gain readout? Factory ITBC is already in the truck. Plastic coin cubby? That truck will not modulate electric trailer brakes out the door. The portable 7-way that is actually in stock today is CURT Echo Mobile. Want a hidden dash dial instead of a box on the bumper plug? REDARC Tow-Pro Elite. The classic under-dash LCD is Tekonsha Prodigy P3 — when Amazon shows New.

Check Tekonsha P3Proportional vs time-delayed. Proportional (inertia / accelerometer) matches how hard you are actually slowing down. Time-delayed dumps a timer onto the magnets. That is the lurch. Echo, REDARC, and P3 are all proportional. Time-delay Amazon boxes are the skip.
Integrated vs portable. Factory ITBC (option 67T) talks to the truck: dash gain, cluster messages, Pro Trailer features that expect a factory module. Aftermarket dash units (P3, REDARC) mount in the cab and need the truck’s brake-controller circuit. Portable 7-way (Echo) sits between the bumper plug and the trailer. No kick-panel hunt. No FORScan. No dealer programming. Different tool. Not a worse tool if the job is “tow this weekend.”
2026 connector. Two different plugs get mixed up on forums. The coin holder on the dash is the factory ITBC switch blank. Pry it and a connector is on the back of that blank — that path is the OEM squeeze-lever + under-dash module, then a dealer / FDRS (or FORScan) enable. The aftermarket plug-in is a separate OEM socket. Tekonsha 303600 and CURT 51436 still catalog 2009–2026 F-150 (CURT also lists 2022–2026 F-150 Lightning). On 2021-current F-150s that socket is often the driver-side kick panel / knee area (CURT calls the housing BH8). Some trucks hide it behind dash trim. Confirm the socket before you buy a dash controller. Do not splice CAN. If the socket is not there, Echo at the 7-way is the workaround.
Electric vs surge. Electric and electric-over-hydraulic trailer brakes need a controller. Surge (most boat trailers) does not. This page is electric.
Pick: portable 7-way
For the 2026 F-150 that showed up with a coin holder and a 7-way.
Drawback: 1–2 axles only. Tri-axle / 8-brake trailer is the wrong pick — wait for P3 New, or buy REDARC if you are at three axles. It hangs off the bumper plug; the stock strap is the weak part (reviews zip-tie it). 7-way with a live 12V pin is required. 4-flat is lights, not this. Not a factory ITBC. The truck still will not show OEM gain on the cluster.

Pick: hidden dash dial
For the cab that does not want a brick on the 7-way.
Drawback: this is not a Ford plug-and-play harness. Universal pigtail. REDARC wants a qualified installer on modern CAN-bus trucks; if you steal the brake signal at the trailer plug they specify an EPDK-001 so you do not back-feed the truck. Heavier install than Echo. 2-year warranty vs Tekonsha’s limited lifetime. 1–3 axles, not 4.

Pick: classic LCD
For the under-dash LCD everyone already knows — when New is actually for sale.
Drawback: as of September 2, 2026 PT, Amazon New is empty on the canonical P3 listing. Currently unavailable. Do not make an out-of-stock LCD the truck CTA. Wait for New, or buy Echo today if you have a 7-way and 1–2 axles. Knockoff “90195” listings are not P3.
Check Tekonsha Prodigy P3 on AmazonMatch the controller to the truck you actually have, not the window-sticker poetry.
2026 F-150, look at the dash first. Lower-right of the steering wheel, vertical slot. Two squeeze levers + gain +/− = factory ITBC (option 67T). Recessed plastic coin cubby = no factory trailer-brake control. Hitch, 7-way, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist can all exist without 67T. 2026 order guide: 67T is optional, or packed with Tow/Haul 53T, depending on trim — it is not automatic with a receiver.
Factory ITBC retrofit is not an Amazon buy. 2024–2025 Ford accessory copy for kit RL3Z-19H332-AA: truck must already have Trailer/Haul 53T and must not already have 67T. ICE and PowerBoost. Not Lightning. Not 2021–2023. Dealer must reprogram the computer. 2026 owners have reported buying the same family from dealer parts (Varsity Ford comment, July 25, 2026). Confirm the VIN at the parts counter. Do not click a random “Ford OEM” Amazon listing as this page.
OEM parts were a real mess in summer 2026. Dated, not invented. TorqueNews, July 25, 2026: a 2026 Lariat owner with a coin holder; dealer parts said they could not sell a factory unit. F-150 Forum, August 6–7, 2026: 2026 owner, dealers on both sides of the Canada–US border had none; one reply said OEM stock had been sent back; Apple Ford showed no ETA. That overlaps two Ford/NHTSA actions:
NHTSA 26V104 / Ford 26C10 (reported February 20, 2026): factory Integrated Trailer Module on 2021–2026 F-150 (and a pile of other Ford trucks). ITRM may lose comms at start-up. Trailer lights and, on high-series modules, trailer brakes. Software update, including OTA. ~4.38 million vehicles in the campaign.
NHTSA 26E046 / Ford 26C35 (reported July 14, 2026; owner letters July 28, 2026): 315 accessory ITRM kits sold for 2021–2026 F-150 (part family ML3Z-19H322- and RL3Z-19H322-). Same class of fault. Dealer software update.
If you already have factory ITBC, check the VIN for 26C10. If you bought an accessory kit, check 26C35. Aftermarket Echo / REDARC / P3 are not those Ford modules.
2021–2025. Aftermarket plug-in path is shared: Tekonsha 303600 / CURT 51436 cover 2009–2026 F-150. 2021–2023 factory kit is a different Ford part family (ML3Z), not the 2024–2025 RL3Z kit. 2024–2026 share the current dash / ITBC generation. Same rule: coin holder vs squeeze levers.
Lightning. Ford’s RL3Z-19H332-AA copy says not compatible with 2024–2025 Lightning. CURT 51436 application list includes 2022–2026 Lightning. Echo only cares that you have a 7-way with 12V. Do not assume the gas-truck OEM kit.
7-way. Echo needs vehicle-side and trailer-side 7-way RV blade. 4-flat is not a brake controller circuit.
Open the Amazon listing and read axle count. 1–2 (Echo) is not 1–4 (P3).
Secondary fitment searches only. These are not the hero buy. Confirm the Echo / REDARC / P3 product on the Amazon page.
Time-delayed Amazon boxes. Activator-class timers, no-name “IV” units, anything that does not say proportional / inertia / accelerometer. That is the lurch.
P3 clones (FEITON, MiCCiKA, “90195 replacement”). They showed up next to the empty genuine P3 listing. Not Tekonsha. Not this page.
Tekonsha Primus IQ and Voyager as this page. Real products. Primus IQ (90160, 1–3 axles, electric only, not EOH). Voyager (9030, 1–4 axles, LED, 5-year warranty, not self-leveling). As of this writing both had no New Buy Box on the US listings we recaptured. Do not CTA an empty Tekonsha.
Echo knockoffs and Echo Under-Dash as Echo Mobile. Generic 51180 listings and CURT Echo Under-Dash (51190) are different SKUs. Hero is CURT 51180, ASIN B07JQ99SDD.
Ford OEM as an Amazon Shop button. No verified US Amazon New OEM ITBC kit as a hero. Dealer VIN lookup. Programming required. Accessory kits sit in recall 26C35.
Draw-Tite / Reese time-delay as a substitute for P3. Same corporate family as Tekonsha on the harness (303600 is dual-branded). The controller still has to be proportional. Do not shop a category search and call it P3.
Splicing the 2026 F-150. Tekonsha and CURT still sell a plug-in harness. If the socket is missing, use Echo. Do not cut the truck to death to save a 7-way adapter.
If the truck has a 7-way and no factory ITBC, buy CURT Echo Mobile (portable proportional, New in stock). Want a hidden dash knob and 1–3 axles: REDARC Tow-Pro Elite (New in stock). Want the classic 1–4-axle LCD: Tekonsha Prodigy P3 when Amazon shows New. If the dash already has squeeze levers, you already have the factory controller — check the VIN for recall 26C10.
Not always. Option 67T is the Integrated Trailer Brake Controller. Tow/Haul 53T packs it on some trims. A Class IV hitch, 7-way, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist can show up with a coin holder in the 67T slot. Look at the dash. Do not trust the salesperson’s “tow package” shorthand.
Fitment confusion is the main story. OEM accessory kit availability was a real dealer problem in July–August 2026, overlapping Ford’s accessory-kit recall 26C35 (NHTSA 26E046, letters July 28, 2026) and factory ITRM recall 26C10 (NHTSA 26V104, February 20, 2026). Aftermarket Echo and REDARC had live New Buy Boxes on September 2, 2026 PT. Genuine Tekonsha P3 / Primus IQ / Voyager New was empty on Amazon that day. That is Amazon stock, not “Ford has no 7-ways.”
Factory ITBC switch: behind the coin holder, dash, lower-right of the wheel. OEM module: under the left dash near the brake pedal. Aftermarket Tekonsha/CURT harness: OEM socket, often driver kick panel / knee (BH8), sometimes buried in dash trim. Confirm it. Echo ignores that socket and uses the bumper 7-way.
Yes, if the truck and trailer both have 7-way RV blades and the truck’s 12V pin is live. Echo does not need the under-dash socket and does not become factory ITBC. 1–2 axles. CURT says last settings stay if Bluetooth drops.
No. Surge is mechanical, typical on boat trailers. Electric and electric-over-hydraulic need a controller. If the trailer has a 7-way and brake magnets, you need this page.
