Who this is for / skip

For you if: you tow a bumper-pull travel trailer or utility trailer, you know the trailer’s loaded tongue weight, and you will match that tongue weight and the gross trailer weight to this hitch, then to the receiver and the truck.

Skip this page if: you want a fifth-wheel or a gooseneck. Also skip if you were about to use the truck’s max-tow sticker as the hitch rating. Skip 17501 if you meant 17500. Skip a 66074 order that assumes a shank is in the kit.

03 · Confirm the size code

Equal-i-zer

Maker calculator lists 90-00-1000 on the 1,000 / 10,000 lb row. That page calls the result an estimate. Confirm the size code.

The ones that matter

A weight-distribution hitch uses spring bars to move tongue weight off the rear axle and back toward the front axle and the trailer axles. Sway control is how the trailer is kept from walking sideways. These three do that job differently. The number that matters is this hitch’s GTW and tongue weight.

The rating is the hitch, not the truck

CURT 17500: 10,000 lb GTW, 1,000 lb tongue. That pair is the 8-10K TruTrack. 17501 is a different TruTrack, with its own GTW and tongue range. This pick is 17500: 10,000 lb GTW, 1,000 lb tongue.

REESE 66074: 12,000 lb capacity, 1,200 lb gross tongue weight. The title says without shank. A receiver still needs a shank rated for the same job.

Equal-i-zer: the size page lists several codes. 90-00-0400 is the 400/4000 row. 90-00-1000 is the 1000/10000 row. 90-00-1001 is a different 1000/10000 row. Confirm which code the calculator returns. Do not treat 90-00-1000 as every Equal-i-zer.

Equal-i-zer’s setup language: tongue weight should be at least 10 percent of gross trailer weight for the friction sway system. That is how you load the trailer. It is not a new hitch rating, and it does not raise the CURT or REESE tongue lines.

Sway, only what the page printed

CURT: four points of sway control, spring and cam, brackets that hold the bars. The page says the brackets use friction to resist lateral movement, replacing a separate sway control. Spring bars can be set to 30 or 70 degrees, plus or minus 5.

The title and the Dual Cam list are the sway story. Ignore a spec cell that says sway control is not included.

Equal-i-zer: 4-point friction sway is the system name. Confirm the size code covers the trailer you weighed.

What is in the box

CURT 17500 includes the shank and the ball. The ball is 2-5/16 inch. Do not assume a 2-inch ball.

REESE 66074 does not include the shank. Mounting hardware is marked yes. Safety chains are marked no. Buy the shank. Match it to a 2-inch receiver only after that shank’s own page says 2-inch. The REESE 66074 page does not name a receiver size.

Equal-i-zer: confirm shank and ball on the size you order. The calculator row did not label those as included.

Fitment, do this

Weigh the trailer loaded. Tongue weight is the tongue, not a guess from the dry sticker. Match GTW and tongue to this hitch, then to the receiver, then to the truck. The lowest rating wins. CURT prints that limit on 17500.

2-inch shank is printed on CURT 17500. The REESE 66074 page does not name a receiver size. No fifth-wheel. No gooseneck. No “fits F-150 max tow.”

Shop by truck

Match the hitch rating to the loaded trailer, then to the receiver and the truck. A fifth-wheel or gooseneck is not this page.

Care

Grease the CURT lube points before the first trip. The page says to follow the manual’s schedule. Spring-bar angle is 30 or 70 degrees, plus or minus 5. That is setup, not a new rating.

Equal-i-zer tongue weight at least 10 percent of gross trailer weight is setup for the friction system. It does not change the hitch row you confirmed.

FAQ

What is the best weight-distribution hitch?

CURT TruTrack 4P 17500 if you want 10,000 lb GTW, 1,000 lb tongue, and a shank in the kit. REESE Strait-Line 66074 if you want 12,000 lb and 1,200 lb tongue and you will buy the shank. Equal-i-zer if you confirm the size code. The calculator lists 90-00-1000 on the 1,000 / 10,000 row. The hitch rating is not the truck’s tow rating.

Is the CURT 17500 the 15,000 lb TruTrack?

No. 17500 is 10,000 lb GTW and 1,000 lb tongue. 17501 is a different part. Do not swap them.

Does the REESE 66074 include a shank?

No. The title says without shank. Buy a shank rated for the trailer and the receiver.

Does the REESE 66074 include sway control?

The title is active sway control, and the kit lists Dual Cam 26002. That is the sway story.

How do I pick an Equal-i-zer size?

Use the maker size page. It lists 90-00-1000 next to 1,000 / 10,000 lb, and it says the result is an estimate. Confirm the code. Do not use a retailer rating in place of that page. Tongue weight at least 10 percent of gross trailer weight is setup, not a new rating.

Is this a fifth-wheel hitch?

No. This is bumper-pull weight distribution for a receiver. Fifth-wheel and gooseneck are a different page.
