Toyota Recalls Tacoma and Tundra Curtain-Airbag Service Parts (26E050 / 26E051) — Owner Letters Through Late September

Toyota is recalling 4,118 curtain shield airbag (CSA) service replacement parts — not the bags that left the factory in every truck — under NHTSA equipment campaigns 26E050 and 26E051. The parts were made by Joyson Safety Systems for certain 2016–2023 Toyota Tacoma and 2014–2021 Toyota Tundra Double Cab and CrewMax trucks. Owner notification letters for known replacement installs are scheduled September 13–27, 2026. If a curtain bag was replaced in the affected windows, get the free dealer inspection — do not assume a clean VIN means you are clear.

These are equipment recalls. Most Tacoma and Tundra owners are unaffected because factory-installed CSAs are outside the scope. The risk only applies when a listed Joyson service part was installed after a collision repair or other replacement.

Who this is for. Tacoma (2016–2023) and Tundra Double Cab/CrewMax (2014–2021) owners who had a curtain shield airbag replaced after a crash, malfunction, or body-shop repair in the supplier production windows above — and shops that bought Joyson CSA service parts in those lots.

Who should skip the panic. Skip “every Tacoma and Tundra is recalled.” Factory-fit curtain bags are not in 26E050 / 26E051. Skip waiting on a VIN-only clear if you know a curtain bag was replaced — equipment campaigns often will not flag on a stock VIN check the way a vehicle campaign does.

What we’d do. If a curtain airbag was replaced on a listed truck, call a Toyota dealer with the campaign numbers (26E050 / 26TK02–26TH02 or 26E051 / 26TK03–26TH03) and the part numbers above, and schedule the free inspect-and-replace. Keep Toyota customer service 1-800-331-4331 handy. If you never had a CSA replaced, this recall is not your problem — but it is a shopper note if you are buying a repaired truck with airbag work in the history.

What the filings say

Both campaigns are equipment recalls filed July 29, 2026, after Toyota’s July 24 decision. Joyson Safety Systems in Torreón, Mexico, supplied the CSA assemblies.

On 26E050, the Tacoma service CSA may not have been properly secured to its mounting bracket during manufacture. On 26E051, the Tundra service CSA may not have been rolled properly. In both cases, NHTSA’s consequence language is the same: during deployment, portions of the CSA may not reach their intended positions, which can reduce restraint performance and raise injury risk in certain crashes.

Toyota’s remedy path notifies known owners who had a replacement installed, asks dealers to inspect and replace affected assemblies at no cost, and asks dealers to trace parts sold to body shops so those owners can be notified too. Part 573 schedules owner notifications from September 13 through September 27, 2026.

Shopper checklist

1. Ask: was a curtain shield airbag replaced on this Tacoma (2016–2023) or Tundra Double Cab/CrewMax (2014–2021)?
2. If yes, call a Toyota dealer and reference 26E050 (Tacoma) or 26E051 (Tundra) plus Toyota’s 26TK/26TH numbers.
3. Bring or look up the part number if the repair invoice lists it — compare to the tables above.
4. Schedule the free inspection and replacement if the part is in.
5. Body shops: check inventory and sold-part traces for the Joyson lots in the production windows.
6. Do not treat a blank VIN page as proof you are clear if you know a CSA was replaced.
