Who should buy which
For you if: you climb the rear bumper to reach the bed often, you want the step to disappear under the bumper when you are done, and your truck is on AMP’s BedStep chart for the matching part.
Skip this guide if: you want AMP PowerStep running boards along the rocker. Skip nerf bars and flat fixed boards. Skip if you only want a hitch-receiver step (see the Westin HDX brand search below). Skip Raptor and dual-exhaust apps excluded on the install guide for your year.
Hitch step, different mount
Westin HDX Drop Hitch Step 56-10015 — universal 2 in receiver hitch step, not an under-bumper BedStep. Westin for that part does not list a step load rating. It is not a 300 lb AMP BedStep substitute.
The ones that matter
Bed access at the bumper is different from cab entry. PowerSteps and nerf bars get you into the doors. A BedStep gets you into the bed over the bumper without a milk crate.
Retractable under-bumper vs hitch step
AMP BedStep mounts to the bumper structure and folds under the bumper. A hitch drop step plugs into a 2-inch receiver and hangs behind the hitch. Towing, spare tire carriers, and bumper sensors all change which one clears. If you live on a gooseneck or fifth-wheel, confirm bumper and hitch clearance before you order either style.
Load rating
AMP lists 300 lb for the BedStep. That is AMP’s listed BedStep load rating. Westin 56-10015 does not list a load rating on its site, so that figure stays blank here.
Stow when driving
AMP’s install guide attention note: stow the step when driving. A deployed step is for loading, not for highway geometry. Kick it up before you leave the job site.
Bed access without the milk crate
Most truck owners climb the bumper once or twice a week: coolers, feed bags, toolboxes, kids into a camper shell. A retractable BedStep gives a flat pad at bumper height and then disappears so a hanging step is not left in a parking lot.
AMP’s under-bumper mount is meant to stay clear of an open tailgate and of towing on the maker copy. Still walk the install with your hitch head, bumper sensors, and spare-tire carrier in mind. Dual exhaust tips change clearance on some fourteenth-gen F-150s — that is why the 75328-class guide excludes dual-exhaust apps on later revs. Confirm before you drill.
PowerStep vs BedStep vs nerf
PowerStep is a rocker-panel board that deploys with the door. Nerf bars are fixed tubes under the doors. BedStep is only the rear bumper. Shoppers who land here after a “best steps” search often need cab entry instead — send them to power boards or nerf bars when the problem is getting into the seat, not into the bed.
When a hitch step is enough
If you already run a 2-inch receiver every day and you only need occasional bed access at the hitch, Westin HDX 56-10015 is the brand search here. It is not retractable under the bumper, and Westin doesn’t list a pound rating for it. For a dedicated under-bumper pad with a listed 300 lb line, stay on AMP BedStep.
Spec table
Westin 56-10015 is a hitch brand search, not a second BedStep. Load left blank where Westin does not list one. No prices here.
Fitment, do this
Match the AMP application part to year, cab, and bumper. 75312-01A covers 2015–2020 F-150 and excludes Raptor on the AMP install guide for that part. 75328-01A covers the 2021–2023 F-150 class and excludes Raptor and dual-exhaust apps on later revs — confirm your year on AMP or RealTruck before you buy. Other trucks have their own BedStep part numbers on AMP’s chart. An F-150 bracket will not fit a different bumper.

Install notes
Bolt-on on most apps; some drilling may be required. Follow the AMP sheet for your part. Check clearance to the spare, hitch head, and bumper sensors. After install, deploy and stow a few times empty, then with a normal load under the 300 lb rating. Re-torque after the first week.
FAQ
What is the best truck bed step?
AMP Research BedStep for a retractable under-bumper step with a 300 lb rating on AMP. Match the application part to your truck.
How much weight does BedStep hold?
300 lb, per AMP Research for the BedStep.
Is BedStep the same as PowerStep?
No. PowerStep is a powered running board at the doors. BedStep is a rear bumper step for the bed.
Does it fit F-150 Raptor?
Not on the example install guides for 75312-01A and 75328-01A — those exclude Raptor. Confirm AMP’s chart for any Raptor-specific fitment.
Can I leave it deployed while driving?
No. Stow when driving. AMP’s install guide calls that out.
What about a hitch step instead?
Westin HDX Drop Hitch Step 56-10015 is a 2-inch receiver step, not under-bumper. Westin doesn’t list a load rating for it.
Will it work with a tonneau or bed cover?
The step lives at the bumper, not in the bed rails. A cover that needs bumper clearance when open still needs a dry-fit. Confirm the cover’s rear path against a deployed and stowed step.
Does 75328-01A fit 2024–2026 F-150?
Confirm on AMP or RealTruck for your exact year. The example install guide class for 75328-01A is 2021–2023. Later years may not share that part — confirm the maker’s fit chart.
Is drilling required?
AMP says bolt-on on most applications; some drilling may be required. Follow the sheet for your part number.
