Ford Recalls 102K Super Duty, F-150 Trucks for Stuck Speedometers

Ford is recalling 102,159 certain 2025-2026 Super Duty trucks and 2026 F-150 pickups because the analog cluster’s speedometer and tachometer needles can stick or move erratically, according to NHTSA campaign 26V653 (Ford recall 26C46). A speedometer that does not show your real speed can increase the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the instrument cluster module free of charge, but the fix is not ready yet. Interim owner letters are expected October 26, 2026, and the remedy is anticipated in December 2026. NHTSA’s record says affected VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on October 7, 2026.

Check your VIN now. If the truck is on the list and the needle starts acting up, cross-check it against the digital speed readout if your cluster has one, and book the dealer as soon as parts land.

TruckDaily take

Who this is for. Owners and lessees of 2025-2026 F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550 and F-600 Super Duty trucks, 2026 F-150 owners, and anyone shopping one of those trucks new or lightly used. Only trucks built with certain analog gauge clusters are covered. Run the 17-digit VIN at NHTSA’s recall lookup before you sign papers or hook up a heavy trailer.

Who should skip. Other model years are out of this campaign unless the VIN tool says otherwise. Ford says these trucks were not built in VIN order, so do not guess from your build date or a buddy’s truck. Skip a junkyard or online cluster swap too. A used module is not the validated replacement, and the dealer fix is free.

What we’d do. Check the VIN today. If 26V653 / 26C46 is open, call your Ford dealer, get on the list for the cluster replacement, and keep Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 handy. Until the part arrives, cross-check the needle against the digital speed readout if your truck has one, and give yourself extra room in work zones and school zones. While you are in the VIN tool, make sure the truck is clear of other open Ford campaigns, like our Super Duty LED headlight recall 26V606 and F-150 front seat bolt recall 26V655.

Which trucks, by the numbers

Ford’s Part 573 report breaks the 102,159 trucks down like this. Super Duty is the bulk of it.

Model Trucks Production dates
F-250 Super Duty 43,300 Dec 14, 2024 to Apr 17, 2026
F-350 Super Duty 26,354 Dec 14, 2024 to Apr 17, 2026
F-550 Super Duty 12,260 Dec 14, 2024 to Apr 17, 2026
F-150 10,570 Aug 22, 2025 to May 12, 2026
F-450 Super Duty 6,847 Dec 14, 2024 to Apr 17, 2026
F-600 Super Duty 2,827 Dec 14, 2024 to Apr 17, 2026
F-750 Super Duty 1 Nov 21, 2025

Ford estimates about 1 percent of the population actually has the defect. That is still a lot of trucks, and nobody can tell from the outside which ones.

What the filing says

NHTSA’s record lists Ford Motor Company recall 26V653000. The Summary says the analog cluster’s tachometer and speedometer may become stuck or move erratically, providing inaccurate readings to the driver, and that the trucks fail to comply with FMVSS 101, Controls and Displays. Potential units affected: 102,159.

Ford’s Part 573 report fills in the back story. The suspect parts are L1 analog cluster modules from Tier 1 supplier Visteon. Ford traced the problem to supplier process deficiencies, and says tool maintenance the supplier did on January 15, 2026 resolved them, though the exact nature of the deficiencies is still not fully understood. The issue went to Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group on May 28, 2026. By September 16, 2026, Ford had logged 18 warranty reports and 93 field reports, received between January 2025 and August 2026 and tied to 79 distinct VINs. Ford says it is not aware of any accidents, fires or injuries. Its Field Review Committee approved the recall on September 29, 2026.

One nuance from the filing: Ford concluded the trucks meet the stated speedometer requirements of FMVSS 101 but may not meet the full intent of the standard, and NHTSA’s compliance office agreed with that reading. Either way, the fix is the same. NHTSA’s record does not flag Park It, Park Outside or an over-the-air update.

The remedy: dealers will replace the instrument cluster module free of charge. Ford says the replacement module has been validated for proper operation. Interim letters warning owners about the risk are expected October 26, 2026, with Ford planning to finish that mailing by October 30. A second letter goes out once the remedy is available, which NHTSA lists as anticipated in December 2026 and Ford’s schedule pegs at December 7-11. Ford says its general reimbursement plan on file applies, which matters if you already paid to fix this. One date to know: Ford’s filing planned for VINs to go searchable October 9, but NHTSA’s record says they went live on NHTSA.gov October 7.

What owners should do

  1. Write down the 17-digit VIN from the dash plate or door sticker.
  2. Search that VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. NHTSA says affected VINs have been searchable since October 7, 2026. Ford says these trucks were not built in VIN order, so check every truck you own.
  3. If 26V653 / 26C46 is open, call a Ford dealer and ask to be scheduled for the free cluster module replacement when the remedy parts are available.
  4. Until then, compare the needle with the digital speed readout if your cluster has one. If the needle sticks or jumps, tell the dealer when you call.
  5. If you already paid out of pocket to replace the cluster, keep the receipt and ask Ford about reimbursement at 1-866-436-7332.
