Truck bed tie-down anchors are the hard points your ratchet straps, ropes, and chains hook to. Factory loops sit low in the bed and run out fast once you start hauling real gear. BullRing prints 1,000 lb working load and 3,000 lb break strength on the 4001-XT page. CURT prints 3,600 lb working load and 11,000 lb break strength on the 83742 page. Working load is the number you plan around for day-to-day strapping. Break strength is the failure line, not a target. Always use the lower of the anchor rating and what your truck bed, floor, and hardware can actually take. A 3,600 lb D-ring bolted into thin sheet without backing is still only as strong as the sheet and the bolts.

4001-XT drops into open top-rail stake pockets. Lift the stainless ring, hook the strap, haul. Press it flat when you are done so the rail stays snag-free and quieter. Raised-fit means the body sits on the rail cap — do not order a flush-fit BullRing SKU for the same truck without checking the fitment guide. BullRing lists OE black texture finish, front / middle / rear pocket positions, and a pair that can cover up to six pocket positions across a bed. No drilling into the truck for a normal open-pocket install. Some trucks hide the pocket under the rail cap and need a trim for a clean fit — that is a fitment-guide conversation before you cut anything.

83742 is a 3″ × 3″ class surface-mounted D-ring in forged steel with clear zinc. CURT prints a 1-3/4″ × 3-11/16″ × 7/8″ mounting bracket, a 3-1/2″ × 3-1/2″ × 1/2″ ring, square holes for 3/8″ carriage bolts, and 7/16″ mounting holes 2″ apart center to center. It is meant for ropes, cables, straps, or chains in trailers, trucks, and vans. CURT notes it can mount with the bracket alone or with a backing plate (83607 or 83610 on CURT’s page). Mounting hardware is not in the box — buy carriage bolts and any backing plate that match the install you planned.

If you need the whole bed load to roll out on a sliding tray, that is cargo-slide territory. If you need a fold-down step at the rear bumper, that is BedStep territory. If you need a lockable cross-bed box, that is toolbox territory. Ordering D-rings when you wanted a slide, step, or box wastes a Saturday and a return label.

Do not assume a flush-fit SKU is the same part. Open-pocket installs use a Phillips screwdriver; hidden pockets may need a rail-cap trim. Recheck the screws after the first loaded trips. Stay inside 1,000 lb working load per the maker rating and under your truck’s bed limits.

CURT 83742. Pick a solid mount location on the bed floor, trailer floor, or van cargo wall. Use 3/8″ carriage bolts in the square holes. Consider CURT backing plates 83607 or 83610 when the sheet metal needs help. Mounting screws are not included. Torque to a sane fastener spec for the bolts you bought; recheck after the first hard haul. Stay inside 3,600 lb working load and treat 11,000 lb break as the failure line, not a plan.

Both. Match strap capacity to the weaker link in the system — hook, strap, anchor, or floor. Do not strap through plastic bed liners as if they were steel. Rinse salt and grit out of stake pockets so the retractable ring still snaps clean. Check BullRing Phillips screws after washboard miles. Keep CURT zinc finish wiped down; treat deep chips so raw steel does not sit in road salt. Inspect straps and hooks as often as the anchors — a good D-ring does not save a chewed strap. Store unused rings flat on BullRing so soft covers and tonneau edges do not catch a raised loop.
