The ones that matter
A winch hook lives on the rope at the fairlead. A D-ring shackle lives in the kit and connects straps, tree protectors, and recovery points. Mixing those jobs in one cart is how people buy the wrong part.
UltraHook replaces the hook
UltraHook installs on the winch rope eye with the titanium double-shear pin. You can run it as a conventional hook or lock the latch and use the machined shackle hole for closed-system winching. That is the Factor 55 choice here.
Epic is forged D-ring rigging
WARN Epic 92093 is a forged clevis or D-ring with an 18,000 lb load capacity. It belongs on bumper mounts, tree protectors, and strap ends — not as a drop-in fairlead hook. Epic kit language ties these shackles to winches 18,000 lb and under.
Same aisle, different jobs
Do not treat UltraHook’s 16,000 lb max load and Epic’s 18,000 lb load capacity as a head-to-head strength contest for the same mount. One replaces the hook. One is kit D-ring steel. Pick by job, then read the listed working number for that part.
No side-loading
keep the load in line with the pin. Side-loading a hook throat or a D-ring is how recovery hardware fails early. Neither maker choice here is a side-pull rating.
Hook vs shackle mount vs soft shackle vs D-ring
Four parts get mixed in search.
Winch hook and UltraHook. Replaces the factory hook. UltraHook adds a machined shackle hole and latch lock pin for closed-system use.
Shackle mount (FlatLink and ProLink). Hook replacements that hold a shackle on center. Not in this guide — see the winch shackle-mount guide.
Soft shackle (00069 and kin). Soft fiber connector with its own WLL. Not a mount and not UltraHook. Soft-shackle numbers live on the winch and recovery guide.
Forged D-ring (Epic 92093 here). Steel clevis for kit rigging. Not a fairlead hook.
Factor 55 UltraHook: what the maker lists
UltraHook was built for closed-system winching with the speed of a hook. A shackle-pin hole is machined into the hook body. A latch lock pin stored in the body locks the safety latch for a closed loop. The titanium double-shear pin takes steel or synthetic rope eyes — no splicing. Line diameters up to 3/8 in. Shackle pin hole accepts common 3/4 in screw pins and soft shackles up to 1/2 in.
Working and ultimate numbers on Factor 55:
- Maximum load: 16,000 lb (working number for these picks)
- Ultimate strength — hook throat opening: 31,000 lb
- Ultimate strength — shackle pin mount: 48,000 lb
Geometry and mass: folded 1.5 in thick; weight 32 oz; CNC machined 7000-series aluminum. EPDM rubber pads protect the fairlead and cut rattle. Finger grips promote proper hook-up orientation.
Use ultimate-strength lines only as maker failure context. Tow and winch to the 16,000 lb maximum load (and the weaker link in the rest of the system).
WARN Epic 92093: what the maker lists
Epic shackle 92093 is forged steel with E-coat and powder coat for abrasion and corrosion resistance. Load capacity: 18,000 lb. Size on this part: 3/4 in shackle with 7/8 in pin. Epic recovery-kit language describes forged 3/4 in Epic shackles for winches 18,000 lb and under.
This part does not replace a winch hook. It does not fold flat against a fairlead. It is the D-ring you pin through a strap eye, tree-protector loop, or bumper or receiver mount rated for the job. Match the shackle to the mount hole and pin the load in line.
How to choose in one pass
- Job. Replacing the winch hook → UltraHook 00250-01. Need a forged kit D-ring → WARN Epic 92093.
- Working number. UltraHook max load 16,000 lb. Epic load capacity 18,000 lb. Your winch rating, rope, and weakest link still cap the pull.
- Rope. UltraHook takes steel or synthetic to 3/8 in. Confirm the eye fits the titanium pin before you toss the factory hook.
- Not FlatLink and ProLink / 00069. Those parts are other pages. Those parts stay on their own guides.
Closed-system winching in plain words
Factor 55’s closed-system language means closed-link hardware — latch closed, or a shackle or soft shackle through the machined hole. Instead of an open swinging hook. That is a technique claim. Your weakest listed working number still rules the recovery. UltraHook’s latch lock pin is how you lock the conventional hook path; the machined hole is how you run a 3/4 in screw-pin or soft shackle up to 1/2 in.
Spec table
UltraHook is a hook replacement (max load 16,000 lb). Epic 92093 is forged D-ring kit steel (18,000 lb). Different jobs. No prices. Confirm rope eye, pin, and mount before you buy.
Fitment
UltraHook is universal to the winch rope eye and fairlead class Factor 55 lists — not a truck-year part. Confirm rope diameter to 3/8 in, thimble or eye fit on the titanium pin, and fairlead clearance when folded to 1.5 in with the EPDM pads.
Epic 92093 fits 3/4 in shackle mounts and strap eyes that take a 7/8 in pin. Confirm the mount hole and the winch and kit rating under WARN’s 18,000 lb Epic language. A D-ring needs a hole that clears it — skip undersized fairlead holes.

Install notes
UltraHook: Pull the factory hook. Seat the rope eye in UltraHook. Install the titanium double-shear pin per Factor 55. Fit EPDM pads against the fairlead. Stow the latch lock pin in the body when you want it handy; lock the latch when you want a closed hook path. Recheck the pin after the first pull.
Epic 92093: Pin through the strap eye or mount with the screw pin fully seated. Keep the bow loaded in line — no side pull. Inspect E-coat and powder coat and threads after muddy recoveries. Retire a bent or stretched shackle; retire it instead of hammering it straight
